Skin cancer

Depending  on the type of skin cancer you have been diagnosed with your surgery  will be performed in office or as an outpatient in a surgical  facility.  In most cases these procedures are done under a local  anesthetic.  This allows you to eat prior to surgery and drive  yourself.  Certain types of skin cancer can be evaluated by a  pathologist at the time of surgery, this is referred to as Modified  Mohs' Analysis.  Dr. Holcombe or Meghan will discuss this with you if  you are a candidate for this procedure.

Breast reconstruction

Dr.  Holcombe performs three types of breast reconstruction; tissue  expander/implant reconstruction, TRAM flap reconstruction and Latissimus  reconstruction.

  • Reconstruction using tissue expanders and implants are done in 2 stages.  The first stage is placement of the expander which is an  inflatable implant.  After placement of the expander you will come in  once a week to have sterile saline injected into to the expander until  it reaches it's desirable size. Approximately 6 weeks later we will  perform the second stage which is removal of the expander and placement  of the permanent implant.
  • TRAM (transverse rectus  abdominus muscle) flap reconstruction uses the lower abdominal tissue  and stomach muscle to create a breast.  This is done in the main  hospital as an inpatient.  You will be admitted for 2-3 days for  post-operative care.
  • Latissimus flap  resconstruction uses the skin of the back and latissimus muscle to  create a breast.  This procedure is often combined with the placement of  an implant because the flap alone typically does not have enough volume  to produce the desired breast size.
  •  After breast  reconstruction is complete many women desire nipple reconstruction.   This is done as an outpatient under local anesthetic.  Nipple and areola  tattooing is the final step in breast reconstruction.  At this time we  do not offer this service but can refer you to another office that does

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is the surgical treatment of macromastia which means large breast.   The procedure reduces the size of the breast and repositions the nipple-areolar complex to it's anatomically correct position.   Many women  with macromastia often suffer from pain in their neck, back, and  shoulders, chronic rashes under and/or between their breasts, and  headaches.   For these reasons many insurance companies will  cover breast reduction surgery.

Mastectomy for Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia  is the enlargement of breast tissue in males.  Mastectomy is the  removal of the breast tissue.  In some cases a mastopexy is also  necessary in order remove excess skin and reposition the nipple to it's  anatomically correct position.

Cosmetic Procedures

Dr.  Holcombe performs a variety of cosmetic procedures including breast  augmentation, mastopexy (breast lift), abdominoplasty (tummy tuck),  liposuction, upper blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), and earlobeplasty.  During your consultation you will look  at pre and post-operative pictures of Dr. Holcombe's patients.  Patients  interested in breast augmentation will spend time "trying on" implants.

Post-operative Care

Once your surgery is complete you will be taught how to take care of  your wounds and be given written instructions to follow at home.  If  your surgery was done at a surgical facility you will be given discharge  papers that will include the date Dr. Holcombe wants you to be seen for  post-operative follow up. Please call our office to schedule this  appointment.

If you have questions about wound care during regular office hours  please call our office and ask to speak with Sarah or Yanet. If it is  after office hours and you are concerned you may have a complication  call our office number to have the on call physician contacted.
